Steve Question #34

Dear Joshua,

I'm still confused about the "danger" you speak of that rational fears help me to avoid. Isn't everything that happens to me "sanctioned" (I would go as far to say "arranged") by the universe with the full blessing of my inner self? Otherwise, it's like I can make a poor choice and suffer the consequences and it's a surprise to my inner self. Taking it to the extreme, I cannot accidentally die, since every death is a suicide which implies knowledge in advance and acceptance of this death. Just trying to understand the definition of risk in the physical environment.

Thanks!
Steve

Dear Steve,

There is no danger as long as you are allowing well being to flow as it is intended. If you are fully aligned with who you really are, what you really want, and with your inner self, then you are allowing well being and you will be guided through life. There is no danger, there is really only preferred and not preferred. There is no death, there is only life. You choose to be focused in physical reality and then you choose to be focused in the nonphysical reality.

So then if an accident where to happen, would you now call it an accident or would you realize that something more is going on? Let's say you took your car on the road and you spun out but there was no damage. Would this be an accident or is there something to be gained from the event? Now, let's say you drove your car into a tree. Is this an accident or is there something to be learned from the event?

When driving into a tree, do you judge the event as preferred or not? If not, why not? You know there is something to be gained by the event, so why would you not be pleased by the event? Because you have a desire for your car to be free from damage. You have a fundamental desire in which the Law of Attraction is responding. You have a gentle spin, you adjust your attitude so that it aligns with your true desire, and you maintain the car's condition. The event worked just as planned.

Now imagine that you are a race car driver. Your desire now is to be the fastest and to win at all costs. You do not car about the condition of the car because you are used to crashing them and having new cars provided for you. Your only desire is to win at all costs. Even the safety of your life is not a consideration. If you die in a crash, that's just part of the game. The manifestation events that occur for you in this state of mind are quite different. Is there danger? It's a matter of perspective.

So what is the purpose of fear? Fear is an aspect of physical reality induced by the survival instinct. Fear is useful and can provide necessary feedback. If your desire is to stay alive, keep your body from being injured, and keep your loved ones safe, then fear is useful. If your desire is to win a race at any cost, then fear just gets in the way and you learn to overcome it.

When we compare rational fear to irrational fear it is for the purposes of defining your limiting beliefs. When you worry about what others think, this is a limiting belief which is affecting the quality of your experience. When you worry about money, it is another limiting belief brought on by an irrational fear. When you worry about crashing your car, rational fear helps to keep you moving towards your true desire, which is an intact car and body.

Learn to overcome irrational fear and to notice rational fear. Irrational fear is limiting in the sense that it keeps you from what you truly want. Rational fear is also limiting, but is helpful because it is in full alignment with what you truly want. Both types of fear keep you from something. Irrational fear keeps you from loving your neighbor while rational fear keeps you from crashing your car.

Love,
Joshua
