Kyla Question #39

Joshua,

Ever since I was a little kid, I've had a habit of holding my breath without realizing I'm doing it. Once I become aware of it, I take a deep breath and sigh. As I've begun to meditate more, I've noticed I'm more conscious of my breathing, but I still find myself at the end of a day sometimes (like today after a long day at work) feeling what would be the equivalent of hungry or thirsty, but it's like I'm starved for air.

Why do I do this? I guess it's probably a side effect of my lack of presence in the moment. I'm getting better and better all the time at mindfulness and just "being". And yet I'm still literally forgetting to breathe. Will this habit fade on it's own, or are there limiting beliefs I need to uncover and prove false in order to "fix" it? Would it be helpful to find a way to remind myself to breathe, or could I just set an intention every morning? Thanks in advance for your input.

With love,
Kyla

Dear Kyla,

You are not your body, you are the captain of your body. You do not control your heart or liver or any of the functions of the body. Who controls the body? The body controls itself. It does not need you to breathe. You do not have to remember to breathe. It will breathe on its own. Your body is a marvel of competence, alignment, balance and well-being. You guide your body and as you do, it responds. The body receives energy and balance from the foods you eat, the water you drink, and the air you breathe. The body prefers healthy food, clean water, and deep breaths. Sometimes you eat rich foods, drink sweet beverages, and breathe lightly. This is fine. Your body will adjust.

When you remember to breathe deeply, it is a thought that has been given to you. When you remember to drink more water, it is a message that was sent to you. When you remember to eat well, it is an inspiration that was delivered to you. Focus on becoming who you really are, creating what you really want, and experiencing the expansion that you came for. Don't worry about your body, it is perfectly capable of taking care of itself. If it needs anything, it will send you a message and when you are in the state of allowing, you will receive it.

Love,
Joshua
