Kate Question #38

Dear Joshua,

You talked about the shoes and comfortable clothes. That same evening I put on a pair of sneakers and went for a walk - just to be able to stretch my toes, who were so happy! Why I wouldn't wear more comfortable clothes to work (sweat pants) made me think a bit - and I came up with two reasons (both based in fear - one fear somewhat rational, the other, irrational) why I don't go for sweatpants? (Although there might be a gray area between suites and tights etc and sweatpants).

The more rational fear is that it wouldn't go down well at work with others, whether employers or clients and I could therefore end up risking losing my work which I continue to see as my source of food and comfort (so that seems like a rational fear to me).

The more irrational fear is that Im afraid if I wore sweatpants for comfort everyday I would end up not caring much about my body, maybe exercising less, eating more junk food, not washing my hair - and who knows where that could go, because I would not have a physical indicator to tell me that I'm not doing the work needed to stay healthy and happy with my body. Also, I wouldn't be as attractive to others. I would love your feedback on this and maybe where my beliefs are off.... I think its an irrational fear because I have a mirror which gives me feedback so the clothes would not necessarily influence me negatively, and also, when Im home at night after work, the first thing I do is get into something more comfortable and warm.

Dear Kate,

I a natural world, you would have no need for clothes at all. No one would care what you looked like, and as long as you were aligned with who you really are, you would be completely fit and healthy occupying the body you loved no matter what shape it was. People would appreciate you for who you were, not for what you looked like or how you dressed. However, you do not live in the natural world, you live in an abstraction created by a fearful man. Therefore, you must conform to certain social standards. Although you might be more physically comfortable wearing comfortable clothes, you would be psychologically uncomfortable as you worried about what others thought.

So we concur that fitting in is as important as being comfortable. When you wore heels, you noticed the discomfort and you wondered why you were doing this to yourself. Now you are able to tip toe along the line between what is physically comfortable for you and what's psychologically comfortable. Where can you make your life more comfortable at work? That might be an interesting game. What will others think? You might wear more comfortable clothes that appear as if they are business appropriate and just see what happens. What will happen to your vibration? What will happen to your ego? How will you feel? It's an interesting game to play.

While we would certainly agree that there is value in physical comfort especially at work, we would argue that there is little value in emotional comfort. You did not come here to play it safe, you came to this physical environment to expand. You came for the experience that physical reality offers. You came to test your powers of creation. You came to create your own reality. You care a lot about what people think. It is common among humans in your specific society. But what if you cared a little less? What if you understood that how they saw you was simply a reflection of how you viewed yourself? If you cared less about what they thought and more about what makes you feel good, how would this change your reality?

So, having said this, we ask that you go on a mission. We want you to slip into something more comfortable for work and see what happens. It can be something that appears to be appropriate, but is actually very comfortable. Test the limits of what you are comfortable wearing in that environment. See how it affects your ability to do your job. See how it affects your mood. See how it affects your energy. Keep in mind that you control how others perceive you based on how you perceive yourself. When you wear these clothes, adopt a stance of invincibility and supreme confidence. Make it your superhero costume and see what happens.

Joshua
