Allyson Question #58

Dear Joshua,

Does our posture have anything to do with anything?

I (assume) I have bad posture in two ways. And sometimes I very aware of it and I have to admit that I feel better when I am aware and thus suck it in and pull it up.

But what's that about?

I was going to ask... why would I pick a body that doesn't look good?

And then I heard some noise.

So - when I don't feel good about myself, do I 'purposely' slump and let it all go?

Or - when I don't feel good, does that mean something - somehow - to someone?

Lots of love,
Allyson

Dear Allyson,

Isn't it interesting to realize that you communicate not only with your words, but with your body and your vibration as well? When you slump, what is the communication you are giving forth? What is the energy of slumping compared to the energy of engaging your core muscles to sit or stand erect? Does it mean anything when you feel bad? Of course it does. It means that you are choosing a perspective that is not in alignment with who you really are, what you really want, or the perspective of your inner self. Does your posture mean anything? It certainly does.

Now, let's put this into context. If you are slumped over because you are feeling good and relaxed, then your posture conveys how you are feeling in that relaxed moment. If you are slumped over because you are feeling bad, feeling sad, feeling inept, feeling incapable, feeling powerless, then your posture conveys exactly how you are feeling. If you are slumped over in worry, then everyone will no that something is wrong because this is the language you are conveying by how you are presenting yourself to your world through your body.

You have control over your thoughts and thus you have control over your reality. You can think any thought you like and therefore you can create any experience of reality you like. You can control your posture just as you control your thoughts. However, it is much easier to know when you are thinking a thought that it not empowering; you receive feedback in the form of negative emotion. If you are slumped over, it's because you are not paying attention to your posture. If you continue to feel negative emotion, it's because you are not paying attention to the quality of your thoughts.

So then what are you to do to create the life you prefer? Pay attention to those occasions when you feel negative emotion. If you can understand that your thoughts (of fear) cause you to receive negative emotion, then you can reach for better-feeling thoughts. If you can do this on a consistent basis, it will become habitual and automatic. It just takes a little time, practice, and attention. If you can notice those times when your posture is less than erect, you can make the decision to sit up, look up, and project how you want the universe to see you as it sees the communication coming forth from your posture and your vibration.

With our love,
We are Joshua
