Steve Question #54

Dear Joshua,

Are you ever supposed to "tackle" a problem? Lately I have been thinking I should try to really figure out what I want to do with my life as it relates to my financial abundance/career. I have been enjoying the ride so to speak for the last few years, but I have always wanted my own business and currently I am not making progress in that area. Should I be actively meditating on this, writing down ideas, etc? Or will it come to me without me actively having to do anything?

Thanks!
Steve

Dear Steve,

Whenever you think you want something, it is important to identify why you think you want it. The reason will always be some sort of feeling. This feeling could be to feel something new or to remove yourself from your present conditions. It's either one or the other. If you want to experience a new business because you think you would enjoy the feeling of expressing your own creativity in that form, then maybe a business is for you. If you think you want a business because you wan to enjoy the freedom you now lack, the money you now lack, the control you now lack, etc. then maybe you're not looking at it in the most beneficial way.

You already have much of what you have asked for throughout your life. Did you contemplate all of this beforehand or did it just seem to happen? Did you contemplate your mate beforehand or did you just meet? Did you meditate before creating your children or did you simply allow them to come? Everything you really want is coming to you just as you want it.

Here's how this works. If you really wanted your own business, you would have it. But you want so much more. You want to work the amount of time that you currently work. If you owned a business, you might be working twice as much as you are now. You want to live where you live, enjoy all the things you enjoy, pursue your interests as they arise. Owning a business is actually quite low on your list. Let's imagine that you have a full life. Part of it is your family and friends. Part is your work life. Part is your spiritual life. Part of it is your adventurous life. We would say that you want to own your own business at about a 10% level compared with everything else you want and have that you would not want to sacrifice.

Remember that you can have, be, and do anything you want in this physical reality. Now contemplate the fact that you already have most of what you really want. The things you don't have that you do want are very small in comparison. But, if you want them badly enough, you can have everything so that it all meshes together perfectly. The key is the feeling of what is wanted.

The best way to imagine something wanted and the feeling involved is to think of yourself as a sculptor. You stand before a huge chunk of marble. You will express your creativity by chipping away at the marble for days and weeks on end. Everyday you come and chip away at the stone revealing your creation little by little. Now here's the important part to remember. It's not the finished statue you enjoy, it's the chipping away part.

If you want a business, it's not the money, the freedom, or the control that you want. it's the daily chipping away that excites you. If that part doesn't make you feel good, then it isn't the business you're after. The daily doing must be the fun part. The side effects of money, control and freedom, might never come. However, if you're enjoying the process, who cares?

If you can be in a business that never makes any money, that consumes much of your time, and it's still highly enjoyable to be there every single day, then you've created a highly successful business. If it's money, control, or freedom you're after, and you think a business will solve these problems, it just might. But if you aren't having fun in the process, then it's not a good business for you.

Do what you love to do and don't worry about anything else. If you haven't found what you love to do yet, then think about what you are doing and realize just how much you do enjoy it. There are aspects of everything in your life that you love and appreciate. Focus on those and by default, your life will gravitate to more of that. You don't have to meditate, just allow and appreciate.

You are love,
Joshua
