Steve Question #4

Dear Joshua,

I have loved motorcycles my entire life. I currently have a Ducati Monster that gives me so much joy that I cannot fully describe it to anyone. It has to be experienced. It is so powerful and capable! It enriches my life and I believe the physical world was made for these types of experiences! I get to take it to the racetrack a few times a year and that's amazing fun. Just taking it to work occasionally for my commute is fun. And I'm so appreciative that engineers and designers got together and created this machine for me to enjoy. I hope I have conveyed why I want this Ducati in my life

I recently borrowed a friends Harley Davidson touring bike and took a 3000 mile, 2 week trip to Canada and back. I had an amazing time and really enjoyed the experience! This bike is the polar opposite of my Ducati. It is big and comfortable for long trips and great for passengers. It's like a couch on wheels! So now I want a Harley Davidson touring bike. Not only that, I want the top of line Harley Davidson touring bike (the Custom Vehicle Operations or CVO version, with it's upgraded more powerful motor and fancy paint job and heated seat and hand grips, upgraded stereo, (I could go on) especially since that was the bike my friend let me use, so know I'm spoiled!

Here are some hard numbers that I can buy a Harley for:

Used Harley - 15K
Used CVO Harley - 25K
Brand new Harley - 30K
Brand new CVO Harley - 40K

From reading your book, I should not be letting cost be the primary determination, rather it should be how I feel. Going by feel, it would be AWESOME to buy the new CVO, just not practical given my current financial situation.

I have MANY things going through my head as this "which to buy" or "not buy at all" decision bounces around in my head. 1st the positive - this would be a really fun addition to my life and my wife and daughter could also benefit because riding on the back of the Harley is much more comfortable for the passenger and we could actually take long trips together. (Which I don't do now with the Ducati because it's a race bike and not comfortable at all for long distances) Also, it's just plain fun to ride. A very different "energy" than the Ducati.

Now, the not so fun beliefs...

I "should" be paying down my current debt and not buying more "toys"
I "should" be saving for my children's college fund (which is right around the corner)
I "should" be using this money to take my family to Europe and for example, tour Italy...

I have given myself until August of next year to either buy a Harley or I will rent one for 10 days so I can join the same group of guys I went to Canada with on another 3000 mi trip. I've already made hotel reservations...

Really sorry to be long winded, but I'm trying to convey enough background and really also show how so much is being "activated" in my mind when I'm trying to make these decisions...

I want to feel abundant, I want to be abundant. The abundant choice and fun choice to me feels like buying the CVO on credit. But that also seems somewhat irresponsible... (But I could afford the payments)

How should I be approaching this decision?

(I would like to add that I have really been enjoying the test rides and reading reviews, etc.)

Thanks!
Steve

Dear Steve,

While our co-creative interaction with you is specific to you and we answer your questions, we know that your questions and our answers will help so many other people. Not everyone will have specific questions regarding the ownership of motorcycles, but the concepts of possession and manifestation are common to everyone. It might sound like this answer is general and broad in nature, but be sure that we are talking to your specific question and our answer is designed to bring you, specifically, to a new level of awareness of all that's possible and to a new perspective on the manifestation of physical objects.

We want to bring your focus back from the physical object to the feeling you think that object will bring you. Now, this is a feeling reality, so how you feel and what you are feeling are the only really important or interesting things that are going on here. You believe that a motorcycle will bring you a certain feeling, so you decide to bring that feeling to you. Good. This is the purpose of life. You desire a feeling and then you line up with that feeling and allow the universe to bring you that feeling. It's a pretty simple system isn't it?

Now you hear us say the word "allow" and you don't really know what that means. It means you don't do anything but allow that experience to come to you. You can make the experience happen by simply buying or renting the motorcycle, but that will cause you a little trouble. Do you see how?

You set up conditions for the feeling and you try to analyze or explain or rationalize how the feeling will come to you. You want the feeling of the new motorcycle that is a different feeling from your current motorcycle. But you place all these barriers in your path, such as cost, or downsides, or the exclusion of other experiences you want. When you look at owning the new motorcycle, you imagine that it will come at a cost of other experiences (feelings). You place those restrictions on your desire. No one else did. The blocks to what you want are placed there by your own hand.

There is a different approach that you might explore that aligns with the Law of Attraction and the mechanism of physical reality. The approach is called allowing. You have heard many talk of this concept, but it hasn't yet struck a cord with you because you are a doer, not an allower. Your doing, when not inspired, is not allowing. Your doing causes problems in the natural manifestation of your desire. Your habit of thought creates these problems. Don't worry too much because we know you are a wonderful manifestor of things and experiences. We are just trying to help you to see how this all really works from a higher, broader perspective so that the manifestation process will become more efficient.

You could find a way to buy a new motorcycle today and have it in your possession quickly if you wanted to. Isn't that interesting? You want this thing and you can just go get it if you wanted. So why don't you? Because you know you are not quite aligned with the having of this thing. You can manifest it quickly if you wanted to by taking actions you know how to take, but you don't do it. You stop yourself from having the very thing you know you want.

This is common of most humans, rich and poor alike. You stop yourselves from having what you want because you haven't lined up with it. This is actually quite good because, had you not lined up with it first, you would not have the experience you truly desire.

Let's say you want this new motorcycle and you just go out and buy it. You bring it home and show it to your family and they realize that now the trip to Europe is off and this causes them to feel bad. You realize that they must deal with their own feelings, so you hop on your new bike and take a nice ride along the coast. Unfortunately, you now feel guilty and your whole experience is tainted. This is not the experience of the bike as you had imagined it. You want the feeling you had when thinking about the motorcycle and this feeling does not match that feeling.

You are always going for the feeling, not the object itself. Think about the feeling of having or doing something, not the thing itself. The feeling is the only important aspect of the physical object. The thing is not the feeling.

Now, it is interesting to note here that you are searching for a feeling that is somewhat different than you are now experiencing in your present life. You identified the feeling on your trip to Canada, and you want to bring more of that experience into your life. Now, prior to the trip to Canada, you had wanted to experience this feeling as well. Have you thought about that? The only reason the trip to Canada manifested was because you desired a certain feeling and you allowed it to come to you. Did you need to own the bike to get the feeling? No, a friend loaned you the motorcycle. You allowed the feeling to come and it was in line with what you desired in the first place, so the universe elegantly produced the essence of that feeling in physical form and you had a wonderful experience.

You want to experience this feeling again so you start thinking. You try to figure out how to get that feeling you desire and you start to take action, even if that action only consists of thinking about the feeling and how you (as opposed to the universe) will bring that feeling into your reality. You cannot see how the universe will bring you the essence of your desire because your perspective is limited. All you can do is try to figure out how the universe will bring you this new toy. But, if the universe doesn't hurry, you're just going to go out an buy it yourself, rationalizing that it was meant to be since this is your desire.

So you manifest your own desire and bring it into your physical reality. Nice job. However, the feeling you thought you were going to get from the owning of this motorcycle is actually quite different from the actual feeling you will receive from the new bike. That's because you we're not aligned with your true desire when you bought it. You did not allow the universe to do its job. You were impatient and you got in the way of your own creation. While the bike may look the same as what you imagined, it's the feeling you wanted, not the bike.

Let's analyze the feeling first and see where that takes us. You imagined yourself riding your new bike with ease an comfort in some beautiful setting with someone you love on the back. You imagine seeing the beauty surrounding you, feeling the fresh air, feeling the freedom of the ride, and enjoying the whole experience free of doubt, fear, or worry. However, if you go out and try to manifest this experience on your own, without the leverage of universal forces, the actual feeling will be quite different. You will have the bike, but not that feeling you wanted. So, then, the motorcycle is not the means to the feeling. Isn't that interesting?

The motorcycle is simply a component of the overall feeling you desire. You desire the feelings of love, freedom, ease, joy. You can't experience those feelings if you are consumed by worry, fear, or doubt. In this case worry, fear, and doubt arise when you think that you can't afford the bike, or that you have to trade this experience for another experience, or you believe that you family will resent you for this purchase in some way.

So, we say that you are on the right track if you're considering all of the feelings and you realize that simply having the motorcycle in your possession does not give you the feeling you want in and of itself. There is more to the story here and, we respectfully say, that you can't figure it out on your own. You just don't have the perspective. The more you try to wrestle this desire to the ground, the more you will notice that you lack what it is that you want. As you know, when you feel lack, you attract more lack.

So then what are you to do? Don't do anything other than think about your original feeling. Don't try to figure out how to get there. You must trust that if your feelings are pure and you don't notice that the manifestation has not occurred, then the universe will bring you what you really want which is the feeling.

Will the universe bring you the motorcycle you want? We can't say. It might bring you a motorcycle, but it may not be the specific one you really, really want. Will you end up buying another motorcycle? We can't say. You might not pay for the motorcycle yourself. But we can say one thing we know for sure. The universe will bring you the feeling you want in the most elegant and wonderful way imaginable if you will simply allow it.

This is sort of like buying things for yourself the day before your birthday. You were going to get these things as gifts, but you went out and bought them yourself and in doing so, you screwed it all up. Let the universe bring you the full and elegant manifestation of whatever it is you want. That's the reason you're here.

Love,
Joshua
