Steve Question #18

Dear Joshua,

Quick question - Life is going very well for me lately - yet today, I'm struggling to maintain a positive attitude for no obvious reason. I love my normal good feelings (I'm spoiled) and have low tolerance for not being in a good mood. I even meditated this afternoon hoping that would help me out (it did a little). Ultimately, I'm a bit confused as to why today is a struggle at all. To quote a "Star Wars" reference, I'm feeling like there is a disturbance in the force. Is it possible for external "forces" that I am not consciously aware of affect my mood? And what is the best way to get back to your normal good feeling self?

Thanks!
Steve

Dear Steve,

Thank you for this question as you have posed one that many who are up to speed with their vibrational awareness will ask. "If I'm awakening to a new level of conscious awareness, and I choose to feel good, why do I sometimes feel bad? How can this happen? Are there outside forces beyond my control that could affect my mood?

The answer is that there are no outside forces ever. It's always a combination of resistance and momentum. You have come to the place where you are becoming more aware of how you are feeling. You are moving into a momentum of feeling good. You strive to feel good and you are getting used to it. In the past you were used to feeling bad. So when you feel bad now, in your enlightened state, you feel it more fully and you don't like it. You might even blame yourself for allowing this bad feeling to occur. Yet, it may also seem out of your control since it has popped up into your awareness. This is due to some momentum and some resistance.

We would like to spend this time talking about resistance. You have an idea what resistance is but you're not aware of how prevalent it is in your daily life. You seek to be less resistant, but you only notice when you're being resistant in very few occurrences such as arguments or in times of frustration. However, you are actually being quite resistant most of the day. Here's how it works.

You wake up and notice the time. If you wake up late, you judge this to be wrong. If you wake up early, you judge that to be wrong. You have to wake up at exactly the right moment to be free of resistance. If you had a bad dream, you judge that to be wrong. If you can't remember your dream, you think that's bad. Only if you have a wonderful dream do you feel right or free of resistance.

When you eat your breakfast and there's no milk, or eggs, or juice, or whatever, you judge that to be wrong. If you spill something you judge that to be bad. If your spouse is not in a good mood in the morning, you feel resistance.

It keeps on going like this all day long and you aren't even aware of what you're doing. You're resisting everything unless it's perfect and it rarely is. Then you wonder why, after several days of this, you're not in a good mood. The momentum of your resistance has caught up with you.

To be free of resistance means to allow everything to be as it is with the only possible judgment being that all is right, all is well, all is by design, and it's all working out for me. If you can do this on all the small things, all the inconsequential things, you'll be able to allow the big things to be as they are as well. It's only when you seek to control the moment, which is uncontrollable, do you cause resistance. Allow the moment to be as it is, because that's all you can do anyway.

It is also important not to worry too much about those times when you don't feel good. You are very new at this, your perspective is elevating, and you are practicing being more aligned with who you really are. It takes time. You must be easy on yourself. The most limiting form of resistance is to judge yourself too harshly. The most powerful form of allowing is to realize you're doing a wonderful job at all of this. Which is absolutely true.

Love,
Joshua
