Kate Question #8

Dear Joshua,

In what ways (thoughts, words, actions) do we resist change? How does one become malleable and flexible to change (does it happen organically)? I don't think I'm very flexible, often looking to protect my comfort zone (fear - and therefore limiting beliefs, but comfort zone is, well... comfortable and that is good, right? Unless it becomes boring).

Kate

Dear Kate,

You did not come to physical reality to seek comfort. In the nonphysical, you exist in complete comfort at all times. You came to physical reality to have physical experiences and to expand as a result. Sometimes the comfort you have created keeps you from experiencing life.

You can choose to embrace the experiences of life or you can choose to hide from those experiences. There is no wrong choice, it's just that you intended to come here for the experience. You did not choose to live a quiet, comfortable life. You fears limit your experience and cause you to seek comfort. As long as you know this, you can make rational choices.

If you had less fear - fear of failure, fear of what others might think, fear of inadequacy, fear of unworthiness, etc. you would have more experiences. Sometimes you judge experiences to be bad so you seek to avoid similar experiences. It is your limited perspective that allows you to see something as bad. From a higher perspective, you can find a way to realize that all experiences are good. If you feel bad and believe that the experience caused you to feel bad, then you will avoid similar experiences. However, if you realized that this experience was part of an overall set of experiences that were designed to mold you into a higher version of yourself, then you might come to appreciate such experiences.

Imagine you want to become a surfer. You get out on the beach with your board and you watch all the other surfers easily and effortlessly catch and ride waves. You paddle out there and before you can even turn around to catch a wave, you are knocked off your board by a rouge wave and are held under water. As you come up for air, all the other surfers are laughing at you. You feel bad, paddle in and never attempt to surf again. You are looking at the situation from a very limited perspective.

What if you knew that one day you would become a good surfer and that this interest would evolve into one of your most precious passions? What if you knew that the current version of you would have to be changed in order for this to happen? If you knew all that, then you would see the manifestation event of being knocked over by a wave as part of the process. You would not care that the surfers were laughing at you because you would realize that one day these people would become your friends sharing a wonderful passion together.

You are not so close to the situation in this example, so you can see the limited and the higher perspective easily. However, when it is something close to you, you are easily swept up by your emotions. You think the event caused the emotions and so you want to avoid any and all unpleasant events. That's why you seek comfort. However, the events are just there to mold you into a new version of yourself so that you can become a match to what you want. Become malleable by accepting that everything is working out for you and happening for you to move you in the direction of what you want. There's nothing you have to do but simply float downstream and enjoy the ride.

Joshua
