Kate Question #52

Dear Joshua,

You talk about inspired work (or action) and I thought, for some calls I make to clients, that it was inspired, but I'm in fact not sure if it's not just fear (and pushing myself to do it. I mean really, if I had the choice, I'd probably pick the phone up 3 times a week, not 15 times a day. How do I know the difference? It must be in the feeling, but I usually don't give myself much time to "check in" to my feelings - I just go with the thought of "ok, idea is here, go...."

Kate

Dear Kate,

When you feel the inspiration to act, you feel interested, inquisitive, energetic, confident, easy, fun, happy, positive and most of all, you feel that you want to do it. Inspired action does not feel like effort or work. Certainly, you may feel the inspiration accompanied by fear, but when you move through the fear, the action will have been pleasant.

Sometimes the idea of an action feels like drudgery and that is not inspired. Sometimes the action feels forced and that is not inspired. Sometimes the action is desired but you feel fear and you convince yourself it is not inspired action. This is simply resistance. Remove the fear and the action will be positive. Push through the fear and do it anyway and the result will be positive. You will feel good after you've taken the action.

When you think about making a phone call to a client, most of the time you fear that you will have nothing to say, that the client will say no, or that you will be bothering him or her. That is fear. When you work through the fear and successfully talk about something interesting, you'll feel good. However, you must note your emotional state of being. Fear is a lower-vibrational state and you usually are not at your best when feeling fearful. Confidence is a positive emotional state of being and at this vibration you have access to infinite intelligence. High-vibrational thoughts and ideas will come to you in the moment. You'll speak well and have the support of the universe.

It is best if you will take a few moments and prepare before making each call. Have something interesting to talk about. Know your information. Intend for the call to go well. Reduce the intensity of the fear by proving it's false. Take a little time and do a little work prior to each call and you'll find yourself having more fun and more success in the long run. Remember that it is all a matter of intention and practice.

Joshua
