Arnaud Question #9

Dear Joshua,

A short question: are there ever any fears (beside the rational fears that keep us alive) that are worth keeping?

With love,
Arnaud

Dear Arnaud,

Even the rational fears from our perspective are not worth keeping. Fear of lions in your living room, spiders in your bathroom, and snakes in your bedroom are not worth keeping, because there's really nothing to fear. If it comes for you, it is always for you. If there really was a lion in your living room right now, then that lion could only be there for you.

The gazelle caught in the jaws of the lion is for the lion, certainly, but the lion also came to benefit the gazelle. Can you see that? In nature, the beasts work in perfect alignment with universal laws and the energy of love. Yes, there might be some fear on the part of the gazelle, but that is just part of the survival instinct. Notice that once the gazelle is caught, it goes limp. It surrenders. It does not fight against what is. It allows what is to come because the lion came specifically to aid in the gazelle's return to nonphysical. The gazelle was ready and the lion came. One day you will be ready and your lion will also come.

If rational fears aren't worth keeping, then what irrational fears would be worth keeping? How about the fear of irresponsibility? What if you are irresponsible and decide to holiday in Hawaii rather than show up for work? Would you get fired? Would you lose your possessions? Would you become homeless? Who knows? Who cares about all of that? Why are you attached to any of that anyway? There's only one reason. You believe it defines you. You believe that without your job, home, and possessions, that you will be nobody special. That's a limiting belief because in believing that these things define you, you limit your experience of life. Oh well, you can try again next time. It's no big deal.

Think beyond fear and into love. There is no need to fear anything. When you fear something, think about why it is that you have this fear. You can trace all fears back to limiting beliefs. Those are the areas of your life where you are limiting yourself. You see, nothing outside of you can limit you because you are limitless. All you can do is limit yourself. Since you create in your own reality and no one else can create in that reality, you are the only one with the keys to the prison gates. You can lock yourself into a safe and small cell, or you can challenge yourself by processing your fears and realize that most of them are irrational and are supported by a host of limiting beliefs that are not true. You have never tested most of your beliefs (if any at all). It's time to subject your limiting beliefs to a bit more scrutiny. Are they true? Are they always true? They might be true for others, but are they true for you? They are not. Where's the proof? There is no proof. You can actually find proof that your limiting beliefs are false. Make it a habit to be skeptical of your own beliefs and find proof that they are false for you. You need not linger under the pressure of beliefs that do not hold water for you. They are empty and you can prove it if you will just look at them.

With our love,
We are Joshua
